C-TPAT Update 03/28/05

8816 current members of C-TPAT   (3000+ new entrants per year.)

4475 with approved supply chain summary (C-TPAT Certified)

455 validations completed (493 pending or currently underway.)

20% of new entrants have their supply chain summary rejected for more information or additional procedures to be implemented.

40 companies have had their certification revoked during validation.

55% are importers

24% are carriers

16% are brokers

38% of the validations are brokers.  (Customs targeted brokers due to the fact they are critical and very involved in the import supply chain.

Benefits    -     Fewer inspections / quicker release

C-TPAT certified companies are 6 times less likely to receive a security examination upon import and 4 times less likely to receive a trade exam.  1 in 47 shipments are examined for security if imported by a non-C-TPAT importer.

There are currently 64 Supply Chain Specialists with Customs and they are still hiring / training more.

Customs is “raising the bar” and making it much more difficult to enter the C-TPAT program.  I will be attending the C-TPAT conference with Customs & DHS next month.  They should be covering the new requirements at that seminar so I’ll have more information next month.

The fact that our customers use Phoenix International as their forwarder and broker makes it much easier for them to get certified in C-TPAT as we are already validated.  They don’t have to cover the portion of their supply chain in their summary where we have control of their freight.  They only need to document the portion of the supply chain before we receive their freight and then once we deliver it to them here.

Please let me know if you have any questions or need additional information.
