The airlines announced another Fuel Surcharge Increase (FSC). Phoenix International will raise their surcharge from 50 cents/kg to 55 cents/kg, effective October 17, 2005 . Some carriers servicing South America will add an additional temporary 20 cents/kg on top of their current FSC, due to the shortage of jet fuel in the region.
Marseilles strike resumes – JOC - After having announced that they would resume work at the port of Marseilles-Fos on Monday, unionized dockworkers resumed their strike at France 's second-largest port, crippling most terminal operations for the 14th consecutive day, according to the Port of Marseilles Authority . As of Monday the strike had blocked 34 vessels of all kinds at the docks in both ports and left another 52 waiting to dock outside the two ports.
TACA fuel charge extended – JOC - The Trans-Atlantic Conference Agreement announced that its bunker adjustment factor due to take effect Oct. 16 will be held unchanged through Dec. 15.
C-TPAT importers get 'green lane' clearance – JOC - An increasing number of importers that exhibit diligence in securing their supply chains from the stuffing of containers overseas to delivery in the U.S. are qualifying for Customs' coveted designation as Tier Three importers. Importers validated for Tier Three status receive no cargo inspections for security purposes. C-TPAT has validated about 425 importers for participation in the cargo security program. Some 110 of those importers, or 25 percent, have achieved Tier Three status. U.S.-based importers that qualify for participation in C-TPAT must demonstrate to Customs that they have implemented security measures throughout the supply chain. Customs offers a tiered menu of incentives in the form of reduced inspections and flexibility of documentation filing requirements depending upon how secure an importer's supply chain is judged to be.
Nehru truck strike suspended – JOC - A strike by motor carriers serving the Port of Jawaharlal Nehru in India was suspended after the central government pledged to address truckers' complaints.
